Classroom Management & Student Levels
Classroom management:
Four important tools:
- Giving Instructions: Learn how to give clear instructions - even the most interesting, well thought out activity will flop if students don’t know what they are supposed to be doing.
- Using the board: Learn when to use the board and how to use it effectively. For example, drawing a picture on the board is a good way to present a new word.
- Increasing interaction between students: Learn methods to encourage students to work together. For example, putting students into pairs and small groups maximises conversation time.
- Arranging seats: A dynamic tool in the classroom. For example, encourage students by putting them in groups for project work or a horseshoe for class debates or presentations.
Student Levels:
You will be introduced to what students may be expected to achieve at different levels. So, if you are faced with a “lower/pre-intermediate” class you will know that they can communicate with partial success, are able to use basic grammar structures and are still rapidly learning new vocabulary.
