While currently working in Dublin as Cabin Crew, Michael Flynn first heard about i-to-i’s TEFL courses when he was studying at UCC, he said. He came across TEFL again after college as he was looking around online for jobs travelling abroad.
“I would like to have the opportunity to travel a bit, experience different cultures and the likes,” Michael said. “TEFL seems like a great way to do this, enjoyable and great prospects too.”
Michael doesn’t have any employment plans lined up, but he plans on using i-to-i’s job placement service to secure a contract, he said.
“While I don’t think I want to make a full time career out of teaching I do enjoy it and think it suits my personality so it is not surprising for me to be doing this,” Michael said. “I also love to travel so it is not a surprise to be combining the two.”
Michael has so far completed the face-to-face weekend course but recommends additional training as the weekend alone is not a hugely in-depth course, he said.
However, the course had given him a good basis on which to work when he is abroad teaching English.
He plans to eventually go back to college to further study psychology, but in the mean time he plans on wanting to travel and see as many different places as possible, Michael said.
“TEFL enables you to work in so many different countries and a great opportunity to travel and also earn money,” he said.
Michael said he definitely recommends TEFL for anyone wanting to go abroad or try something new for a while, he said.
“I think everyone should travel, and teaching abroad is a great way to do it!” he said. “TEFL gives you the knowledge and connections to enable you to do so.”
