TEFL Teacher Profiles - Kieran O’Driscoll
TEFL Teacher: Kieran O'Driscoll
Hometown: Co. Dublin
Teaching Location: France
Following Kieran’s TEFL course in 2007, he went on to teach an advanced level of English to employees of the European Foundation in Dublin.
“The (foundation) was very happy with my work, and it was thanks to my i-to-i TEFL course training that I was well prepared,” Kieran said.
Now, two years later, Kieran is still using his TEFL knowledge and is currently seeking job opportunities to teach in France on submission of his PHD thesis to DCU this year.
Even with past experience having taught in Waterford for a year and teaching French in evening classes, Kieran turned toward getting a TEFL qualification to help better prepare him and build his resume, he said.
“The TEFL course helped me to understand how to plan and deliver lessons, stimulate interest in class, and even handle discipline matters,” he said.
With his education finally completed, Kieran has been using every means of networking to find the opportunity for him, he said. While using the list of international schools from i-to-i, he has also taken matters into his own hands and used online searches, personal contacts, calling schools in person and emailing his resume and CV to a variety of employers.
“I would definitely advise (people) to study with i-to-i,” he said. “Do the weekend and online course, and get advice from i-to-i about applying for jobs!”
With the aspect of both a face-to-face weekend course and an online course, i-to-i can provide you with the best well-rounded training and preparation. Both methods of training are guided by either a weekend or online tutor giving constant feedback.
“(TEFL) is a passport to immersing oneself in foreign cultures and i-to-i provide excellent advice to qualified students on getting jobs and doing interviews,” Kieran said. “My weekend tutor was excellent, as was my online tutor.”
