TEFL Teacher Profiles - Alan Holman

TEFL Teacher: Alan Holman
Hometown: Co. Dublin
Teaching Location: France, Germany, Canada, USA, UK, Ireland

With a background in the clothing industry and restaurant business, Alan decided to take an i-to-i TEFL course and get qualified to teach English abroad, he said.

“I hope to move abroad and felt it would be advantageous to have the TEFL qualification,” Alan said. “This would enable me to teach English and generate an income.”

Alan found out about the TEFL courses from looking online and didn’t have any travel plans lined up before taking the course, he said. He is currently self-employed while he gets ready for his move overseas, possibly to France.

Even though Alan doesn’t have any past teaching experience, he had thought about the idea of TEFL teaching abroad several years ago, he said.

“(The benefits are that) it gives one a qualification and the ability to earn while travelling,” Alan said.

While Alan is just in the beginning stages of getting qualified, he feels it’s too early to know how well prepared the course will make him feel for teaching, he said.

“It’s a worthwhile qualification to have as I have travelled extensively already,” Alan said.
