TEFL Ireland History
i-to-i was originally founded with the purpose of offering shorter, better value TEFL qualification courses for the avid traveller. Former volunteer, TEFL teacher and world explorer, Deirdre Bounds was inspired to create i-to-i after following a month-long, £1,000 TEFL course and teaching in China. Working alongside colleagues with little to no teaching qualification she invented the "Weekend TEFL Course" so English speakers could familiarise themselves with the basics of teaching in a single intensive weekend course. This resulted in a 20 hour, 2 day course which extracts the most practical elements of the longer course, adds first-hand job search advice and provides an internationally recognised certificate. Since its 1994 inception in the UK, the i-to-i course has climbed in popularity and prestige, expanding its course selection to better cater to its clients needs. As most schools abroad are willing to hire a fluent English speaker with teaching enthusiasm, the i-to-i TEFL course is designed with the traveller in mind. It is perfect for those seeking to travel and earn money teaching, though thanks to globalisation trends and population mobility TEFL teachers are creating a job market here in Ireland.
